LM5051: LM5051 LINE pin questions

Part Number: LM5051

Dear support team,

may I know the meaning of ILINE? is this means that the power consumption of LINE pin?

the max value of ILINE is 780uA and the condition is under Vline = 48V, how about Vline = 100V? since the max rating of this pin is 103V

we would like to add resistor between Vbus to VLINE to prevent the spike to damage this pin, what value is recommend and why?

  • Hi Red,

ILINE is the bias current through the LINE pin flowing into the IC.

This current is determined by internal 50kohm resistor, Vz Zener diode 13V and internal bias current.

    At 48V, ILINE is = (VLINE – Vz)/50k = (48V - 13)/50kohm = 0.7mA.

    At 100V, ILINE is = (100V – 13V)/50k = 1.74mA.

There is already a 50k internal resistor to limit the current flowing into LINE pin.

May we know the type of damage seen in LM5051?

Adding external resistor will limit the power supply voltage range that the device can be operated.

With no external resistor LINE voltage range is 36V to 100V.

Can you let us know the min and max voltage required?

Regarding using Vcc pin as supply, it is explained in detail on page 13 and figure 29 of datasheet.

    Regards,

    Kari.
