SM72442: Can I use it with only 2 MOSFETs?

Part Number: SM72442
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SM72441,

Hello all,

Can I omit the 2 panel mode MOSFETs?

Can I use it with just the 2 synchronous boost MOSFETs? There is no need in my application to buck the PV voltage (i.e. batt volts is always > PV volts)

Lastly, I have an unusual requirement in that I need to be able to discharge the batteries into the PV panels. (batt volts will still be < PV volts, so the same 2 MOSFETs will work. The boost converter will act like a buck converter, when the current is reversed).  So I need current to reverse from the battery into the PV with a current limit. Can you think of a way to "cheat" the signals (I have a big microcontroller in the system) to coax the IC to do that?

TIA

  • Hello Jason,

Thank you for your interests in The SM72442. If you don't use the panel mode, you should select SM72441. With the SM72442 when the VIN is close to Vout, the panel mode kicks in. If you delete the two FETs, there would be not power flow to the load, because the four bridge switches are off. Select the SM72441 avoids such problem.

    Thanks,
