AM37xx with TPS65023 on I2C4

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP3530, TPS65023, AM3703

Hi all,

it seems that there where some problems concerning SmartReflex using OMAP3530 and TPS659xx (see below). Are these problems/limitations still existing if I use other family members? In other words: will a system doing automatic Smartreflex functionality  - established with AM3703 and TPS65023 on I2C4? Do I get Linux power management support for this specific CPU-PMIC (or other) combination?

Karsten

[James]  I2C4 on OMAP3530 is a write only port.  It is not a traditional I2C port (like I2C1-3).  It was intended to connect only to TPS659xx devices for Smart Reflex functionality.  If you use TPS65073, you should connect it to I2C1-3.  This is the reason why the Linux power management support as is written today would not support the TPS65073.  You would have to write that from scratch if you wanted to do any DVFS or power management.

  • Hi Karsten,

OMAP35xx and TPS659xx if used on a system can use Smartreflex Class 3 support. If you use TPS65023 then I think you will have to use Class2 Smartreflex. These are different in terms of implementation and hence you see a limitation.

You may want to ask http://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/pmu/f/200.aspx if there exists and Smartreflex support with TPS65023. I will forward this to the correct contact and hopefully we will get a reply here.
