UCD3138: Some questions about the document SLUA779A "UCD3138 Family - Practical Design Guideline Application Report"

Part Number: UCD3138

Hello
I recently read your application document "UCD3138 Family - Practical Design Guideline Application Report", document number SLUA779A, by Sean Xu.

I have some questions I would like to ask you.

1. "ADC input is a single-ended signal. If the sensing trace is long, move it away from radiation sources" in the document "2.2 ADC pins".

What is "radiation sources"? Is it a transformer, inductor, MOS tube, rectifier, or PWM driver?

2. "Because EAP and EAN are used for feedback loop, C must be selected from the range of 100 pF to 1000 pF. R is preferred to use low resistance." in the document "2.3 EAP and EAN Pins".

Is capacitor C used to filter out differential mode interference? We hope that the resistance of the resistor R is small, can I remove the resistor R?

3. In the document "EMI and EMC Mitigation Guideline", "By shielding the primary side"Windings, the EMI can be practical reduced so that the surrounding circuit can have quieter working environment".

How do you shield the primary winding of the transformer?

4. In the document "Special Consideration", "a net-short resistor or large copper trace must be used to tie the PGND to the Power RTN by multiple vias."

Does "net-short resistor" mean 0 ohm resistor?

5.

I can't understand the meaning of this passage? I don't know what the yellow and purple layers in the picture do. Is it just two pieces of copper?

  • An expert will get back to you soon.
  • 1. "ADC input is a single-ended signal. If the sensing trace is long, move it away from radiation sources" in the document "2.2 ADC pins".

What is "radiation sources"? Is it a transformer, inductor, MOS tube, rectifier, or PWM driver?.. Comments:  It is from switching elements such as MOSFETS, inductors...

COmments: RC is used for different time constant. Normally, R can't be removed.

    3. In the document "EMI and EMC Mitigation Guideline", "By shielding the primary side"Windings, the EMI can be practical reduced so that the surrounding circuit can have quieter working environment".

How do you shield the primary winding of the transformer?  Comment: Use foil to wrap it up

    4. In the document "Special Consideration", "a net-short resistor or large copper trace must be used to tie the PGND to the Power RTN by multiple vias."

Does "net-short resistor" mean 0 ohm resistor?   Comments: Net short is better than resistor

    5.

I can't understand the meaning of this passage? I don't know what the yellow and purple layers in the picture do. Is it just two pieces of copper? Comments:  it shows different layers of PCB

  • Thank you,I get it.
