UCC28500: The PGND & SGND of UCC28500

Part Number: UCC28500

Hello TI members,

What's the different between PGND & SGND of UCC28500? Is there any connection between PGND & SGND inside the IC?

For example: pin 4(OVP) of UCC28500, what reference ground should be connected: PGND or SGND?

Should I connect PGND and SGND outside the IC on the PCB layout ?

thank you very much.

Ginger Lin

  • Hi Ginger,

The PGND is the ground for the driver output and it will carry the gate drive pulse currents these currents should not be carried in a common ground trace shared with any of the control signals, hence the separate pin.

The PGNG and SGND should be connected outside the IC at a star point.

All the control level signals like OVP, VAO, VSENSE etc should be referenced to SGND.

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Peter
