BQ40Z50-R2: bqStudio ASCD settings

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi,

I've question about bqStudio functionality:

When I try to set the current limits in Short Circuit in Discharge (ASCD) protection, I see in manual, that there are 3 settings I need, which I found in Table A-8, Table A-10, and Table A-12 (Vsense value threshold, and two delay thresholds).
When I open GUI, I See only two fields. (please, see attached image)

Questions:

1.1) Do I understand correctly, that first 4 bits - it's time delay threshold, second 4 bits - Vsense threshold?
In example above - do ASCD settings mean ([SCDDx2] = 1) : Vsense= -200mV; Delay1 = 854us, Delay2 = 854us?

1.2) What happens, if I write 0xFF - because, I see that Register can accept max values up to 0xFF?

2) What is the difference between "Counter Dec Delay", "Reset" and "Recovery" params? - maybe there is document, which describes all terminology and common params for all protections, used in BMS IC?

  • Hi,

    See the answers below:

1.1) Do I understand correctly, that first 4 bits - it's time delay threshold, second 4 bits - Vsense threshold?  Yes, that is correct. See the image below from the TRM.
    In example above - do ASCD settings mean ([SCDDx2] = 1) : Vsense= -200mV; Delay1 = 854us, Delay2 = 854us?

The SCDDx2 bit is under Settings->AFE Protection Control in Data Memory. It is set to zero by default. So for the default settings, VSense = -100mV, Delay1 = 427us, Delay2 = 427us.

1.2) What happens, if I write 0xFF - because, I see that Register can accept max values up to 0xFF? You should not write a '1' to the Reserved bit. I am not sure what will happen (or if anything will happen), but it should be left at '0'.

    2) What is the difference between "Counter Dec Delay", "Reset" and "Recovery" params? - maybe there is document, which describes all terminology and common params for all protections, used in BMS IC? There is a table in Section 2.7.3 of the TRM that describes the behavior based on these parameters. "Counter Dec Delay" and "Reset" set parameters for resetting from a latch condition, while "Recovery" sets the timing for recovering from a non-latch scd condition.

    Best regards,

    Matt
