TPS55165-Q1: Ask about wake-up condition or operating range of TPS55165-Q1

Hi there.

I choose TPS55165 for my main DCDC.

1st) Low Iq

2nd) Wide input range

3rd) Buck & Boost

I make sample PCB with TPS55165-Q1. Vout is fixed 5V.

I have some problem about Input range or wake-up. I'm not sure this is wake-up problem or input range it.

Anyway, I test about input range from 3V to 12V.

In wake-up condition, 7.5V or higher is fine.

Fine means Vout 5V is OK.

But lower then 7V case is bad.

Bad means no Vout(5V).

Use IGN pin only.  (No use of IGN_PWRL, so tied to GND with IGN_PWRL)

From the datasheet, min VIN voltage is 2V (VOS_FB tied to GND condition)

I want to use Buck-Boost mode freely.

Input range from 3V to 20V. 

Current output up to 300mA is fine.

In this condition, TPS55165 is very good solution I think. But it operate is not good until now.

Please give to me any advice to use happily  TPS55165.

    Dear Sir,

    2V is the UVL voltage, not the startup voltage. The startup voltage is much higher than 2V, which should be at least  >5.3V min.

    From your datasheet about TPS5516x-Q1.

    1. Features

      * 2-V to 36-V Input Voltage Range for Vout = 5V

      * 1-A Output Current for Vout = 5V and Vin > 5.3V

      * 0.8-A Output Current for Vout = 5V and Vin > 3.8V

      * 0.4-A Output Current for Vout =5V and Vin > 2.3V

      * Automatic Transition Between Step-Down and Step-Up Mode.

    From the "Features"  which I write upper.. set Vout = 5V and Current Limit 0.4-A condition... and also Automatic transition Buck & Boost.

    So with my condition..(0.4A & 5V).. then I can use input voltage range from 2.3V to 36V.

    For actual use... Can I use input voltage from around 4V to 16V, and 0.3-A Current load???

    If my understanding is wrong... please let me know about it.

    Hi Sir,

    TPS55165 can support 4-16Vin, Io=0.3A. But make sure the start up voltage is high enough, at least> 5.3V After startup, the Vin can be tune to a very low value.
