BQ40Z50-R1: BQ40Z50-R1 Setup

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hello,
We have connected the Battery with BQ40z50-R1Fuel Gauge IC. In this we charged the battery upto 16.5 Volts. After completing the charging, Started discharging the battery at 1A Constant current load.
During Discharging we have missed to stop the Discharge at 12V and hence battery voltage went upto 9.6V. After this, We are unable to charge the battery again.
On further debugging, we have found that the CUV (cell Under Voltage)in Safety Status is enabled.
What are the ways to disable the bit and make the battery to put under charging again??
Seems like charge FET is disabled and we have tried to enable it by SMbus Commands using BQstudio but not able to enable it. Can you help on that ??
The individual cell voltages and the other parameters are shown below for your references.
Cell 1 Voltage  - 2808mV
cell 2 Voltage  - 2918mV
cell 3 Voltage  - 2908mV
cell 4 Voltage  - 2955mV

  • Hi Anandan,
Normally a CUV should only disable the DSG fet, so it is likely that a another fault has tripped to disable the CHG Fet as well.
Please check if there are any bits set in the "PF Status" or if there is another protection that is triggered by checking the "Safety Status" in bqStudio.
You can then refer to the TRM to see the recovery conditions for that particular protection.
In case a PF has triggered, you can use the "PF_CLEAR" button in bqStudio to reset the PFs.
    Regards,
    Swami
