DC-DC solution requirements

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5116

Recently, I was working on a robot project. I need the input voltage of 30vdc-100vdc, the output power of 12V 5A and 5V 6A, which can be isolated or not, but the volume should be as small as possible. Can you recommend me some suitable solutions?

  • Hello user5801396,

I encourage you to use WEBENCH POWER DESIGNER for your power supply: https://webench.ti.com/power-designer/switching-regulator   .

From the parameters you specified, WEBENCH generated 98 different designs for the 12VOUT/5A supply.  Based on what are most important criteria for this design, you can then sort the choices, compare topologies and parameters, selecting the design that best meets your needs. In this case, I'm assuming what you stated as 'volume' means 'size', so you can sort the designs by Smallest Footprint.

If, after this process, you have additional questions, you can post a new E2E thread based on the device and topology you have selected.

And if everything is clear and you find the design best suited for your product, please Reply here and let us know.

    Regards,

  • Hi, Leonard:

Thank you very much for your reply!

After discussion, we have adopted a two-stage step-down scheme. The first stage adopts LM5116MHX, the input voltage is 30-100vdc, and the output is 12VDC 8A.The second stage USES 12VDC to turn 5VDC 6A;But now we have a difficult problem to solve. The maximum input voltage of LM5116MHX is 100VDC. Our design requires that at least 20% of the input voltage should be left in the design margin. Could the TI expert help me make a design and add separation electronic devices to the periphery of LM5116MHX to expand the input voltage to 125V?

            Looking forward to your reply!

  • Hi,
I have alerted the LM5116 apps team to assist here; please note that this is a holiday weekend, so a reply may be delayed until early next week.

  • Ok, I see. Thank you very much!
