BQ76PL455A-Q1: 3. All analog faults (OV, UV) are disabled (masked).

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hello again;

I need clarification: I noted that the datasheet says (8.3.1) that by default (from factory), all analog faults (UV/OV) are disabled. However, the FO_CTRL register's default value is listed as FFFC, meaning that both these faults are "enabled"??

However, since the CELL_UV  threshold register defaults to 0000, and the CELL_OV  threshold register defaults to FFFC, do I "assume" correctly that these out-of-range values are doing the effective "disabling" of these faults?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Jeffrey,

    Thank you for your message. The note on section 8.3.1: "All analog faults (OV, UV) are disabled (masked)" is not correct. The OV/UV faults are not masked. Please refer to section 7.6.2 for factory default values (EEPROM default values for NCHAN, DEVCONFIG and FO_CTRL indicate that all 16 channels are enabled, OV/UV comparators are enabled and OV/UV faults are included in the fault output).

    You are correct however that the default thresholds for CELL_OV and CELL_UV are set to the extremes which need to be modified for your application to the desired values. Please also notice that you need to set COMP_OV and COMP_UV to the desired thresholds.

    Thank you for highlighting this discrepancy.
