TPS25221: About output capacitor

Part Number: TPS25221

Hello,

My customers are considering TPS25221.

I have a question about the output capacitor capacity.

Please tell me this problem.

Customers use this IC for overcurrent protection, not USB applications.

If it is not for USB use, will it not cause circuit malfunction even without load?

Also, when it is better to use an output capacitor, how much output capacitor is required?

Best regards,

Yurie

  • Hi, Yurie,

TPS25221 can be used for over current protection besides USB applications. It will not cause circuit malfunction.

For output cap, TI recommends placing a high-value electrolytic capacitor on the output pin when large transient currents are expected on the output, like 100uf. If no large transient current on the output, you can use small output cap, like 1uf, 0.1uf.

    Regards,
