UC3842: Can I use UC3842b with 1-phase rectified DC

I have built a non-isolated boost converter which should operate with 1-phase rectified DC as well as three phase rectified DC. I have validated the converter for three phase rectified DC and now I am trying to operate converter with 1-phase rectified DC, but when I am applying 1-phase rectified DC IGBT is getting damaged immediately. Is UC3842b compatible with 1-phase rectified DC (without filter capacitor)?

Hi Vicky,

If the controller works with the three phase design then it should also work ok in the single phase design. I recommend you check the single phase design for a design error or assembly error in the prototype.

I am not aware of any limitation with the UC3842b that would cause this issue with the single phase design.

Then there might be an issue in a feedback compensation circuit. I will check and redesign the feedback compensation circuit.

Hi Peter,
I have reffered (www.ti.com/.../slva636.pdf) to design a feedback loop of non-isolated boost converter. But in case of single phase rectified DC how to calculate the right half plane zero position?

I am not aware of why the control loop would vary between a 3 phase rectified input and a 1 phase rectified input, the boost should be operating from an essentially DC BUS in both cases.
