LP8758-E0: Can 2 outputs be joined in parallel?

Part Number: LP8758-E0

The locked post "LP8758-E0/B0 works at 2 phase" asked exactly the question I have, but the answer wasnt made public.

Can I join 2 or more outputs of the E0 version, and set registers to same values, in order to provide more current? (i.e is the difference between parts the OTP factory settings, which I need to override anyway)

(Particularly I want to avoid having to stock both the E0 and B0 parts)

Thanks

  • Hi Matthew,

Your question has been forwarded to responsible applications engineer and he will answer to your question soon, thanks

  • Hi Matthew,
The device doesn’t give phase re-configuration capability by I2C commands, only by new OTP spin through factory programming, since there are a few special cares needed to combine multiple rails together; for example, and also most important is load sharing also called Phase Shedding.
As I know, some experienced engineers do use external load sharing resistors (when load regulation is not too tight) to combine rails with same voltage level (rails with lower tolerance is easier and better for combination); but TI doesn’t guarantee the performance when device is used in the conditions out of its datasheet specified.
Please let’s know if you have more questions.
