TLV61046A: Peak Switch Current Limit Data

Part Number: TLV61046A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV61046

Hello All,

About the TLV61046A my customer needs to understand the below:

In the datasheet I see that the limiting current is 680mA minimum.

Why with 2.4V input and 3.3V out is only 20mA as it is written in ds page 5 TABLE 6.5  ?

This seems to be a huge difference.

Could you please clarify this difference?

Many Thanks,

Antonio

  • Hi Antonio:

That's a great question. For TLV61046, the current limit will be changed with output voltage. The current limit should be taken care of from 2 parts:
1.At beginning of soft start, there is an internal circuit limits much lower than normal operation.
2.And if the output voltage drops below 4V, it starts to limit the output current. The lower output voltage, the smaller output current limit.
The detail could be seen in datasheet 7.3.3 &7.3.5 as soft start and short protection.

What's the customer's application? Do they need to start with load connected? If they have such needs, you may share detail spec for us. We may have some solution to optimize the start period.
