TPS63070: Soft Start or delay in power up

Hi Support team,

I have a customer using the tps63070 in a design and am having an issue with start up. The device is on a 500mA USB ckt and is drawing too much current on start up. Is there a way to slow down the start up ramp, or delay the start up?

I can send schematic via email. Noticed input caps are only 10u f not the 30 uf recommended.

Hi Jeff,

What would be the maximum allowed inrush current? It might be possible to bring it down to ~0.5 A, but I will have to test this in the lab.

Hello ccent,

In general it is possible to increase the startup time by the circuits described in these app notes: Extending the Soft Start Time in the TPS63010 Buck-Boost Converter and Extending the Soft Start Time Without a Soft Start Pin.

Both solutions are possible with every converter having a feedback divider, but it is necessary to check if the parasitics added by the additional components are not influencing the normal operation.
