LM317L-N: Quiescent current of LM317L-N

Part Number: LM317L-N

Hello,

I have a question regarding quiescent current of LM317L-N.

Ordinary LDO's Iq is Ground PIN current. However This IC don't has Ground PIN, So in this case, Is this IC's Iq the ADJ pin current or the minimum load current?

If it is not, what is the meaning of minimum load current?

I'm looking forward hearing back.

Thank you and best regards

  • Hi Kazuki,

Quiescent current is by definition ground current at no load; however, it has become common in the industry to use the two terms as equivalents which is why you will normally see TI datasheets referring to Ignd in the Electrical Characteristics Table. Ignd is the current used to power the internal circuitry in the linear regulator. In the case of LM317L-N, the current used to power the regulator will flow out the ADJ pin. As such you are looking for the ADJ pin current.

Some linear regulators require a minimum load in order to ensure proper operation. For LM317L-N, if there is not enough load on the output, the output voltage will rise.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
