TPS65094: TPS650942 I2C issue

Hi Sir,

The Intel release Issue number 1506495178 PMIC had I2S issue, and PMIC have new version for this issue.

Our customer want to know, What Difference on TI Marking code?

    This was a processor issue, not a PMIC issue. Intel is releasing an updated PMC (Power Management Control), not a new PMIC. The PMIC is working properly, it was the master (processor) that was violating I2C specification.

    The only case where we saw this issue having an impact on the TPS65094 was the case when external pull-up resistors were used in addition to the built in pull-ups inside the processor. In that case the SDA rise time was faster than the SCL fall time and could register as a STOP condition. For normal use case without external pull-ups we did not see this issue at any customers. Perhaps other PMIC vendors had more issue than us.

    Our customer have one question,if SWB2 not use, what's value voltage on this pin?
    output cap is 10uF System Power on SWB2=1V, Sleep mode SWB2=1V , is this normal?

  • Hi Hugo,

    SWB2 is a load switch, so when enabled the output should equal the input. For the TPS65094 device, SWB1 and SWB2 are enabled / disabled at the same time, so we reference them as SWB1_2 since they act as a single larger load switch.

    Generally the input is 1.8 V so we would expect the output to be 1.8 V, but since they are not using it they may have done something different.

    You can see when it is enabled / disabled in the sequencing Figures in the datasheet starting on pg 40 (Power Sequencing and VR Control).

    If they have 1.8 V on the input and are measuring 1 V on the output, then they may be measuring an average of 1.8 V and 0 V. If they have PMICEN high and a power fault / THERMTRIPB / UVLO failure, then the part will continue to restart in a cycle. This can be checked with an oscilloscope.
