Part Number: BQ25703AEVM-732
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25703A

hi,

I am working on the charger bq25703A, I read the datasheet a lot of times but the problem that until now I can not understand the role of PROCHOT and their usefulness.

also I can not understand the configuration of the two registers ProchotOption0 and ProchotOption1.

Can any one explain the role of PROCHOT as well as the ProchotOption0 and ProchotOption1 registers? please

Regards,

  • Hello Mohamed,

PROCHOT feature is defined by Intel and is predominantly for use with processors, although there is nothing stopping you from using it in a different context if desired.

Basic principle is that PROCHOT signals processor to slow it's clock rate and decrease power consumption if various system conditions occur that indicate that the battery and/or power adapter is overloaded.

If your design does not use a processor, you may choose to disable the feature completely. In general, I would say that customers who do not require PROCHOT due to processor requirements usually disable the feature.
