LM338: Heat sink

Hi all,

I am using lm338 for my circuit and unknowingly i connected the heat sink to ground instead of Vout. I have already got the pcb for the same. Can you guys suggest me an ldo with same performance as lm338 but the heat sink used is electrically not connected to anything.

    Hi Nishanth,

    Unfortunately other linear regulators in TO-220 packages share a connection to the tab with the middle pin of the bottom portion so there will always be a connection. It seems like using a device which has GND in this tab could help you, but you would run into the problem of having the bottom pins not line up correctly. LM2931-N is a good example for this different pin out.

    In order to fix this you would need a layout change regardless.
