SS Connects 100nF Capacitor to GND.In disable mode, what's the difference between setting PWM duty cycle to zero and lowering SS foot?

  • Hi Melina,

The proper way to disable the part is to pull SS down to ground with an open collector or drain transistor. This way when enabling, the part will go thru the normal Soft-Starting.

When setting the PWM duty cycle to 0, the controller will tri-state the COMP pin and disable the PWM FET but the SS will still stay high. In this mode, the voltage on the output caps will droop and if it's long enough time it will drop to 0V. So the next time you drive PWM to high, SS is aready high and it will not go thru the normal SS cycle and you can get an over-current condition.

    Thanks Tuan
