In reviewing posts regarding the LM5050-1, I came across one that received a response from Aramis Alvarez on 16 June, 2017. In that he states that a TVS diode should be added at the output with the anode of the diode connected to IC ground and not system ground. However in the LM5050-1 data sheet on page 20, figure 31, shows the anode of the TVS diode D2 connected to system ground. There seems to be a discrepancy. Please provide input and/or clarification. Thank you.

Hello Larry,

Could you please reference to the thread where Aramis has responded on this.
This will help to clarify on what context Aramis has suggested to use TVS from IC GND or system GND.

Hi Larry,

Connecting the anode of the TVS diode D2 to IC GND is better because during reverse input polarity, transient reverse current can flow for a while through D2 and external MOSFET before the external MOSFET is turned of by the LM5050-1.

There is a leakage scenario when Vdd is connected to OUT and it is detailed in the attached document. This path also can be avoided if D2 is connected through IC GND and not system GND.
