UCC28070-Q1: single phase operation at light load / booster application

Part Number: UCC28070-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28220-Q1, UCC28070

Hi,

two questions about UCC28070-Q1.

1- Can you use this device as a boost controller in a dc-dc application? My customer was thinking on using UCC28220-Q1, but then they realized that the need frequency dithering. Because of this, they want to use now UCC28070-Q1 in a DC-DC booster application. Do you see any roadblocks when using the PFC controller in a DC-DC booster application?

2- They use UCC28070-Q1 as dual phase, but at light loads they want the device to switch to 1-phase (disable the other phase). Do you know how to implement this? They think they can lift the current sense pin of one phase (CSB) over the peak current limit (PKLMT). Then, one phase should be deactivated and the other would work normally. Do you think this would work? any other idea?

They need AECQ100 devices.

Regards,

Jon

  • Hi Jon,
UCC28070 needs zero cross information from input voltage sampling pin for normal working, so UCC28070 can not be used on DCDC condition directly. But if you add a dummy signal to the input voltage pin, it can work.
UCC28070 can not stop one phase because the UCC28070 needs to control the current share of two phases.
