TPS40210: 12V@8A SEPIC possible?

Part Number: TPS40210
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5155

Hi guys,

Do you think, with the gate drive strength of the TPS40210, that you could design an isolated 4V-18V in --> 12V@8A out SEPIC? Do you think the FET would be too beefy?

I know there are lots of other factors, but just wondering if you guys have a general idea. Given that there are so many TPS40210 SEPIC reference designs on TI.com, and none of them come very close to that, it makes me nervous.

Customer has a TPS40210 design that works with different load conditions they were hoping to just tweak.

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

The TPS40210 driver peak current is only 0.4A, which does not appear strong enough to drive a switch delivering 100W. I would like to recommend the LM5155, which is our latest boost/flyback/sepic controller, having a driver peak current of 1.5A. It is sampling now and will be RTM'ed soon.

    Thanks,
    Youhao Xi
