BQ25713: Minimum Charging current

Part Number: BQ25713

Hi Team,

A customer of mine wants to use the BQ25713 in a building automation application, where the maximum current that they can draw from the line power is limitied to 40mA. Could they use the BQ25713 in this case? The datasheet is not clear about whether there is a minimum input current.

Regards,

Mihir

  • Hey Mihir,

The minimum input current limit settable on the charger is 50mA using a 10-mOhm sensing resistor. However, you could increase this value to 20-mOhm to get a reduced input current limit. The LSB of the input current limit register is 50mA, so you could also choose a sense resistor scaled such that you get around 40mA.

However, BQ25713 is a fairly high power capable device. What is the intention of using this charger above a single cell solution or other buck controllers in our portfolio?

  • Thanks Joel. In this case the customer wants to use a supercap, so their charger options are limited, which is why they are going for the bq25713.
