LM5069: Constant Current Source

Part Number: LM5069

I wonder if I can use this IC as a controller for a constant current source. I am thinking of connecting a MOSFET in parallel with the TIMER capacitor, so after a successful startup, the PGD pin activates the parallel MOSFET and thus, the voltage across TIMER capacitor never reaches its fault threshold. Do you think in this case the IC will continue to set the right gate voltage for the main MOSFET to pass the desired (1A) current? Of course, this is assuming that I dissipate the losses from the main MOSFET.

I also had a question regarding UVLO and OVLO functions... So, if a fault was detected, does the IC return to normal operation after it was cleared (and the main voltage falls within the limits again)?

  • Hi,

    Welcome to E2E!
I will look into this and get back soon.

  • Hi Alinaghi Marzoughi,

LM5069 is a circuit breaker type device. So, if the timer voltage does not hit the fault threshold, the device continuous to allow the load current without current limiting. We have eFuse devices, which regulates the FET to maintain constant current during overload event till it hits thermal shutdown.

Can you share your system specifications to suggest suitable solution. How long you like to maintain constant current source during fault? What is the application use case?
