TPS65381A-Q1: using smaller FET than Q1 (BUK9213-30A) ?

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1

Team,

-For an application where small PCB size is important:

Do we have advise for a smaller size alternative to the Q1 FET (BUK9213-30A) shown at page 95 of the datasheet SLVSDJ1A?
Or because of the voltage/current specs (VDD1=1.2V, 4.2 Vds, see "VDD1 – LDO WITH EXTERNAL FET" table at page 11) a smaller FET can anyway not be used?

See TPS65381A-Q1 datasheet SLVSDJ1A at:

Thanks in advance,

Anthony

  • Hi Anthony,

The FET was chosen based on several factors, input voltage protection, thermal performance, RDSon, etc.

Depending on your system requirements, functional safety requirements, thermal performance needs,  and PCB tradeoffs different FET may be used.  The FET characteristics needed based on the gate drive capability {Vgs(th), Ciss, Qgate, gfs} of the VDD1_G pin for the VDD1 LDO controller are on page 11 of the datasheet in the VDD1 - LDO WITH EXTERNAL FET section to help put some parameters around a FET you choose.
