LMR16006Y-Q1: Output short to battery ~40V

Part Number: LMR16006Y-Q1

Hi,

I was wondering how the device handles automotive short to battery condition? Battery max would be ~40V and I see SW abs max is 60V so should be okay correct?

Regards,

Kevin

  • Kevin,

I don't believe we have this data but here are my thoughts:

    1. LMR16006Y is non-synchronous so the part will not be able to try to uncontrollably sink current to return VOUT to the normal condition. This is good because this sinking current can cause issues.
    2. SW should be good as long as the voltage on SW does not exceed the abs max rating. 40V is fine for the 60V abs max but make sure the voltage does not ring above 60V when shorted.
    3. FB abs max is 7V. Make sure FB does not exceed this. (Ref is 0.765V so this will be an issue if the 40V battery voltage is >9.15x the intended VOUT which would be 4.37V).

Other than that I don't foresee any issues.
