TPS54160: Frequency Compensation Component Selection

Part Number: TPS54160

Hi,

I am Using TPS54160 Ic for Vout= 5V , Input voltage is = 24V and outptu current = 1A

I have simulated the design in WEBENCH and working good. but i want to calculate manually the values for Frequency compensation components.

Till calculating the Crossover frequency Fc, results were oK, but i stuck at calculating the value of gain of Modulator(Gmod) at Crossover frequency.

As per the datasheet TPS54160, the value of Error amplifier transconductance (gm) is 97μMhos, but using this results are not oK.

Also in formula of Gmod it is mentioned as gm(ps), what's the ps means ??? Or do i have to convert the given gm value in different form ??

  • Vijay,

I am forwarding this to the product expert. You should have a response within 24 hours.

  • Hi

The gm ps I believe is the gm for the power stage. Here is a quote from datasheet

    "The control to output transfer

function is shown in Equation 14 and consists of a dc gain, one dominant pole, and one ESR zero. The quotient

of the change in switch current and the change in COMP pin voltage (node c in Figure 48) is the power stage

transconductance. The gmPS for the TPS54160A is 6 A/V. The low-frequency gain of the power stage frequency

response is the product of the transconductance and the load resistance as shown in Equation 15."

and you also have the gm for the error amplifer which is 97uA/V

    Thanks
