TPS23880: PSE pinout configuartion

Part Number: TPS23880

Hi,

For the pinout configuation, here are some question:

1. If TPS23880 use the Type4 configuation, and do Sifos 802.3at tesing, it won't pass the testing, am I right?

2. If the PoE injector pass Sifos testing for Type4, could it promote to end-customer as the 802.3at injector(because it pass 802.3bt only and can't pass 802.3at as question)?

I know 802.3bt is complied with 802.3at, but end-customer needs it pass Sifos testing.

Thanks,

C.T.

  • Hi C.T,

    Please see my answers below.

    1. If TPS23880 use the Type4 configuation, and do Sifos 802.3at tesing, it won't pass the testing, am I right?
[Answer]Yes, you are right. By definition, all the timing and power level are different between AT and BT. So the Type 3 or Type 4 PSE will not pass AT sifos test.

    2. If the PoE injector pass Sifos testing for Type4, could it promote to end-customer as the 802.3at injector(because it pass 802.3bt only and can't pass 802.3at as question)?
[Answer]If the injector is Type 3 or Type 4, you should say it is BT compliant and also you will need to specify the Type. For EA(PoE logo program) testing, the PSE is tested at class level. Once BT standard is released, sifos will release their BT test suites and will allow you to choose Types.

  • Hi Penny,

According to the answer of question2, I have to have different layout for RJ45 pinout for Type3 and Type4, or I can't pass Sifos Type4 testing(but will pass Type3 testing, because Type3 could be every kind of pinout), am I right?

    Thank you,
    C.T.
  • Hi C.T,

No, you don't need different layout for Type 3 and Type 4. You can just follow Type 4 polarity(pair36 positive, pair12 negative, pair45 positive, pair78 negative) as it is also compatible with Type 3. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny
