PMIC suggestion for industrial application

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65218D0, BOOSTXL-TPS65218, LM26480, TPS82085

Hello team,

I bumped into an application in a radio module in which we have 3 output supply rails 1.8, 2 and 3.3V ( Current max-1 A).

Currently in the design there is TPS62097RWKR ( 3.3V to 1.8V), TPS82085SILR ( 3.3 ---2V) and an LDO AP2156SG-13 ( with 2 output 3.3 rails). Vin is also 3.3V for the LDO.

It would be great if you could suggest me one Power module with 2 LDO outputs, 2 DC-DC outputs, so in total 4 outputs needed. I'm quite familiar with WEBENCH , but I'm not able to find what I need.

Additional info : Current rating for the loads ---worst case is 800 mA

Cost has to be kept in mind.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Adrian

  • Adrian,

How do you output 3.3V from the LDO when the input voltage is also 3.3V? I expect this would be just a load switch with VIN = VOUT

When you say current rating for the loads is worst case 800mA, do you mean that each load can consume up to 800mA? Or the total current consumption for all rails adds up to ~800mA? I would not expect the loads supplied by LDOs (or load switches) to consume the same amount of current as the DC-DCs.

With the information available to me, I would say you should look at the LM26480 (2x 1.5A DC-DCs, 2x LDOs) which can be configured externally using feedback resistors or the TPS65218D0 (4x DC-DCs, 1x LDO, 3x Load Switches) which can be re-programmed to meet your requirements using the BOOSTXL-TPS65218 board during prototyping.

Keep in mind PMIC solutions will not be "modules" like the TPS82085. In PMICs multiple rails are integrated but the inductor and input/output capacitance still needs to be added on the PCB.
