    Hello Cheney,
    The need for an external boot diode is determined by whether the application is at high frequency and high gate charge MOSFETs. Most applications do not require this external diode, it is likely that yours does not.
    Refer to the application note SNVA083 on guidance regarding the need for an external diode, and selection guidelines.
