BQ40Z50-R1: bq40z50 R1 low SOC during IQC inspect process in winter

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, GPCCHEM

Hello,

Regarding IATA shipment requirement, the battery SOC should be <30%.

Based on this, all batteries shipment SOC range is 25%~30%.Now we met the SOC under this range 25%~30% during IQC inspect battery in winter. Almost battery packs SOC around 18%~20%

The problem is the battery had experience a low temperature during transportation, about 5degC that make gauge calculation characteristic under low temperature.

In this case, what is the accuracy of bq40z50 at low temp 5degC?

  • It depends on whether the battery was characterized at low temp. Usually there is a drop expected at low temp that's simply there because of the nature of Li ion chemistries. Because of internal resistance increasing at low temp, you can expect a drop in capacity. If the chemistry ID has been characterized for low temp operation using GPCCHEM then you can expect accurate performance with minimal error with temperature variations.
