UCC25630-1EVM-291: What are the Functions of R21 and D10?

Part Number: UCC25630-1EVM-291
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC256304,

Why are R21 and D10 needed in this design? I see no mention of these in the UCC256304 data sheet, and WebBench doesn't include them. Do I need them?

  • Hello Tim,

Thank you for your interest in the UCC25630-1EVM-291.

The function of R21 and D10 are explained in section 5.2 of the UCC25630x Practical Design Guide document: www.ti.com/.../slua836a.pdf
They are an optional protection sub-circuit added if necessary to avoid optocoupler saturation.
You may or may not need them depending on your specific feedback implementation. The Design Guide will help you determine whether they are necessary for your design.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
