BQ77915EVM-014: Can I use BQ77915 with 2s Lipo (7,4 V)

Hello,

I intend to study charging/discharging of a 2s LIPO battery (7,4 V) on a test bed (steady) but also on a RC car in dynamics conditions. Fot that I already bought all chain: charger -bq25882 and BQ25713, fuel gauge bq27421-g1a and balancing and protection :bq77915.

My question is: can I use bq77915 or bq77905 for balancing a 2s LIPO battery (7,4 V) with a separate battery charging connector (besides the power load connector to the ESC brushless)?

Can I use a permanent 1S LIPO (3,7 V) as a cell 0 end my 2S LIPO as cell 1 and cell 2?

    Hi Radu,

    The bq77915 has a cell balancing feature, but the bq77905 does not. This should work in theory as long as the cells have the same voltage specs. I assume you have access to the terminals of each cell to make the connections to the bq77915.

    Make sure to review the table on page 3 of the datasheet to verify the protection levels will work for your project. Currently only the bq7791500 part number is available to order.
