LM5140-Q1: Compensating for the device in the interleaved mode

Part Number: LM5140-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5140ADESIGN-CALC, LM5143-Q1,

Hi Team,

1. When using this device in the interleaved mode, how do I calculate Rcomp and Ccomp?

Cout - Should I use the total capacitance on both phases?

Rsense, RDCR - Which value should I use? The value on either phase?

Rload - Should it be (Vout/total Iout)?

2. Does the "LM5140ADESIGN-CALC"  tool work for interleaved operation? It seems that it treats my inputs as a dual-output application.

Thanks!

Roy Hsu

  • Hi Roy,

Just use the per-phase equivalent circuit with the total output cap divided by the number of phases. The LM5143-Q1 quickstart calculator is configurable for 2/3/4-phase operation and can help you with compensation component calculations - it's available in the product folder. The parameters as essentially the same as the LM5140-Q1.

PS: I recommend using the LM5143-Q1 as it is a true current-sharing multiphase controller (no external op-amp required).

    Regards,
    Tim
