BQ79606-Q1: Daisy chain structure utilize

Part Number: BQ79606-Q1

Hi team,

When balancing multiple cells and the system is utilized with Daisy-chain structure, the power consumption of every BQ79606 from battery may vary too much because the amount of the data transferred on each device is different. So this leads to system inconformity and affects the system life.

I’m wondering do this problem really exist? If yes, what methods can be taken to overcome it?

Thanks and best regards!

George

  • Hi George,

Thanks for the question! Please allow us some time to get back to you after the US holiday break.

  • Hi George,

You are correct that there will likely be differences in power consumption across each device depending on how you setup up your system, although they are expected to be minimal in the grand scheme of the lifetime. This is where cell balancing can come in handy to even the distribution of charge across the battery pack and we generally leave this up to the user to determine the balancing current and how often you enable balancing. Other than that, we recommend following our datasheet and design recommendations app notes to best minimize non conformity across the pack. If you are specifically curious about the bq79606 - these documents should available online soon in the future.

    Hope this helps,
