TLV62565: Frequency Question

Part Number: TLV62565

Hi team,

My customer is requesting the data for TLV62565 maximum frequency. I don't find this data in datasheet but typical value: 1.5MHz.

Could you let me know the maximum one for frequency over temperature and different batches? This information is important for customer qualifty team.

Also, could you let me know the reason of not putting this data in the datasheet? Thanks.

Regards,

Patrick

  • Hello,
sorry for the delay due to the holidays period. We will get back to you as soon as possible in the first week of January.
  • Hi Patrick,

TLV62565 operates with an adaptive on-time control topology - while relatively constant over operating conditions, the switching frequency is an application parameter that cannot be tested/measured directly in production. Therefore it is specified as a typical value only, and I unfortunately cannot extend the datasheet specification here by providing you a max value over temperature and batch variations.

What is the concern of the customer regarding this parameter? What is the frequency limit they would like to ensure not to exceed?

    Thanks and regards,
    Yann
  • Thanks for the feedback Yann,

Customer is looking for a max value to revolve questions like below:

Let's say there's a scenario where the frequency is captured 2MHz for TLV62565. Customer quality team will wonder whether or not this is normal range under this application or it's a failure IC? (maybe it's damaged along the factory or maybe it's related to TI quality).

Per your comments, it's an application related parameter but I don't think it can run up tp 2Mhz in any cases, right? So it has to have some limits/variations to provide and I assume TI does not test it? Please share more insights to help us out here to explain to customer why TI not measuring it. Thanks.

    Regards,

    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

I will come back to you on Monday after I can talk with a test engineer about your question.

    Regards,
    Yann
  • Hi Patrick,

In production we don't directly measure the switching frequency. We use a test mode to test the functionality of the on-time timer circuitry.

In a typical application, we don't expect the maximum switching frequency to vary by more than about 20% from the typical value. However, please be aware that switching frequency alone should not be used by the customer quality team as a criterion to judge the function/malfunction of a part.

    Regards,
    Yann
  • Hi YD,
Thanks for your comments and I fully agree with you. I also want to follow up on 'functionality of the on-time timmer cirtuiry'. Is there a spec/parameter that can be specified as a criterion to judge its functionality/malfunction? Thanks.

    Regards,
    Patrick
  • Hi Patrick,

The functionality of the on-time circuitry is tested in a test mode, and there is no direct relation to a specification parameter.

    Yann
