TPS650830: Register Error question

Part Number: TPS650830
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22969,

Dear Support

The customer does not follow the EVM design, They change load switch TPS22969DNY (Q5&Q6) to other vendor item.
The design is can't normal work, When SLP_SUS# is pulled high, the chip will power down even V3.3A_DSW_PG&V1.8A.
I find the issue is load switch is too slow. (they have a capacitance to control the rise time.)
I try to remove the cap, and the chip can be normal power up to the final action. but register has an error(VCCIO_FAULT&V33A_PCH_FAULT)
Question below

1.DPWROK to SLP_SUS# takes 95ms from PCH, What is the range? The TPS22969 is a must?

2. How to debug the 0x16 error? What are the Triggering conditions? How to fix it?

VCCIOFAULT
These bits indicate that the VR has lost regulation
0: Clears register
1: Indicates power fault

V33A_PCH_FAULT
These bits indicate that the VR has lost regulation
0: Clears register
1: Indicates power fault

  • Yu Seven,

I have assigned this thread to the expert on the TPS650830 device and he will respond as soon as possible.

Note that the time from Dec. 24th through Jan. 2 is an important US Holiday period, and answers to questions may be delayed.
  • Yu Seven,

I am not sure what the range is on the 0.95ms between DPWROK and SLP_SUS# but other load switches should be acceptable if they have the same specs as the TPS22969.

As for the errors in register 0x16, these can be cleared by writing a 0 to these bits. If the device is powering on correctly after removing that capacitance, then these bits may still be set to 1 even if the device is working correctly, just because they haven't been cleared. Table 6-2 in the datasheet describes the condition that causes a power fault. In the same section the datasheet says that power faults are masked for 10ms from when the rail is enabled, to prevent power faults from triggering while a rail is turning on. It is likely that the extra capacitance caused the rail to take longer than 10ms to turn on, and so the rail Vout was <90% of the target for >30us, causing a power fault condition.

  • Hi, Mr. Yu,
The issue may be not caused by the load switch change or turning on too slow. Please check if the load switch control pin voltage level is high enough when the cap applied; or, other issues which are disappeared after removing the cap; please also confirm the fix on the other board if possible.
  • Hi, Mr. Yu,
Please let's know if you have any other questions.
  • Hi Phil

    Thank your support!
