TPS54360: ask for suggestion about a DC-DC converter

Part Number: TPS54360
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , UCC28704, TIDM-1003, ,

Dear TI experts:

I found TI TPS54360 is a good DC-DC converter for 8.5V~60V DC input to 12V DC output.

Could you kindly suggest me a TI DC-DC converter for 18V~43V DC input to 15V DC output?

Thanks for your help!

Happy New Year!

Tang Han

  • For a PMSM motor drive design with AC 110 V as the input power and the resulting rectified Vbus= 150V for PMSM control, could you also kindly show me how to obtain the 12VDC or 15 VDC by TI AC-DC or DC-DC converters? Many Thanks! Tang Han
  • User,

TPS54360B can work for your second converter as well. I recommend TPS54360B over TPS54360 but you may achieve better performance with a newer converter. What is your output current and do you have any other required specs?

AC to DC would probably do well with a flyback converter like UCC28704 but you may require power factor correction if you're drawing lots of power or your system requires PFC. I recommend posting to the offline/isolated/flyback E2E category of E2E to get an expert on that part selection.

  • Dear Sam:

Thanks for your kind and professional reply.

I found TPS54360 in TIDM-1003 (as shown below).  Thanks for recommending TPS54360B, which seems a little different from TPS54360 in circuit design. Can TPS54360 be directly replaced by TPS54360B without any problem and getting better performance?

For my targeted application, its rated power is similar to that of TIDM-1003. So I think TPS54360 may be enough for me.  But if you have newer converters, please feel free to tell me.  ^_^

Could you kindly show me how I can modify the following circuit to obtain Vcc=15V output?

Wish you a prosperous new year!

  • Tang,

The B version is just more robust. It can be swapped out pin-for-pin for the non-B version.

You can set the output voltage (VCC_12V) to 15V by adjusting the feedback divider (R50 and R51) to achieve 0.8V (Vref in the datasheet) at FB when VCC/VOUT = 15V. That is probably all you will need to change but you can check your design with WEBENCH. Go to the product page of the part and enter your design specs in the WEBENCH box (on the right, scroll down a bit), then click to create your design.

  • Dear Sam:

Wow! The WEBENCH is really powerful!!!

Thanks for teaching me this wonderful tool!

Among the 30 matching designs, there are TPS54360, TPS54360-Q1, and TPS54360B-Q1..., but TPS54360B seems not found.

So I will follow your suggestion to use TPS54360B-Q1. Do you think it is a good choice?

    ^_^

I appreciate your professional help so much!

    Wish you the best!

    Tang Han

  • Tang,

Yes, TPS54360B-Q1 is the best choice.

Thanks for utilizing our tools! :)
