TPS2490: FET breakage

My customer has question.

■ Specification
Vin = 12 V
Iout = 40 A

The FET was damaged while the customer was evaluating the TPS 2490.
The waveform at that time is this.

While the customer slowly lowered the input voltage, near the UVLO
Customer believe that the TPS2490 has exceeded the SoA of the FET as a result of repeating starting ⇔ stopping, and the FET was damaged.
Is this correct?
Are there other possible factors?

Hi Kishi,

The FET will experience severe power stress during startup. so, repeated starting means a lot of stress for the FET and we have to check how much SOA margin we have during startup.
Can you share what is the load (total capacitance + equivalent resistance) during startup ? Can you also share the schematic, FET part number and filled up design calculator for review.
