UC3854: Operating UC3854 from a DC Source

Hello Guys,

Can the UB3854 perform as a pre-regulator with 400VDC output with a "DC" power input (120VDC dropping to 80VDC) instead of 220VAC ?

Idea aims at operating the UC354 pre-regulator on normal AC power (80-270VAC) and switching-in a DC source when the line power cuts.

My understanding to your need is to use UC3854 for DC-DC boost converter. If so, yes, it can be used for this purpose.

And all the design equations in the application notes apply in the same way when power input is DC ?

A PFC pre-regulator can be connected to DC input directly although it is designed for AC input. Most of formulas should be ok to use directly. In case some require AC detail, you can assume an AC reversely from your DC to AC. So basically, you can do an equivalent DC to AC at input then design this boost converter.

But in a simply answer, yes, it is ok to use the formulas in the datasheet for a boost converter design.
