TS function for IEC 62368 BQ24040

Hey there ,

I would like to understand few issues related to the new standard IEC 62368 --> there is a requirement to shut down battery charging if temperature is  out of the spec defined by the battery manufacturer.

I understand this should be done by adding 10K NTC to TX pin and to ground, for case one.

1. how to define the right resistance for temp range of 0-50 deg?,

2. If i don't need this feature , does the pin MUST be connected to 10K resistor pulled to ground or can remain floating?

Data sheet is not clear for this issue

  • Hello

    Following info sent by email.

"I understand this should be done by adding 10K NTC to TX pin and to ground, for case one."

    1. how to define the right resistance for temp range of 0-50 deg?,

Bill J -- The TS pin current source is 50uA and Cold Temp trip point is 1230mV, Hot Temp Trip point is 178mV.  This sets the NTC resistance Cold at 25k ohm and Hot at 3.6k ohm.

    2. If i don't need this feature , does the pin MUST be connected to 10K resistor pulled to ground or can remain floating?

Bill J – If NTC temp sensing is not used then I recommend connecting a 10k resistor to TS pin.

  • Not sure i understand

Recommended means it is not mandatory needed?

    What is the risk?

The data sheet indicate once for floating and once for resistor required which one is correct ?..

What is the NTC value i need in order to use temp range of 0 - 45 deg?

Can i get PN for reference ?
