Power Supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6501, SN6505A

I would like to use the transformer from Wurth Elektronik at the link below for my application.

If possible, please show me the smallest footprint Isolated DC-DC Converter that can convert 5V or higher to 5V.

The SN6501 is great but the center-tap transformer is needed and the size of the transformer did not fit in my application.

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Phuong, and welcome to the E2E forums!

TI's two isolated transformer driver devices, the SN6501 and SN6505, are the same dimensions: 3mm x 3.05mm max with the main package difference being their number of pins.

Both devices can drive transformers in 5V:5V and 5V:5V+ configurations, however a center tap is required at least on the transformer's primary side for the system to function. Coupled inductors alone will not work.

Your contact at Wurth Elektronik may suggest a compact center-tapped transformer which meets your system needs and pairs with the SN6501 or SN6505A/B. Have you already chosen which of these devices to use? The SN6505A and B versions are more capable than the SN6501 in terms of power output and features. Please reply if you would like for me to elaborate.

Thank you for using TI parts.

  • Thank you Manuel Chavez.
I am contacting Wurth Elektronik and hopefully they would consider building a small canter tap transformer for me.
Thank you again for your support.
