BQ35100: Trouble with Flash Access

Part Number: BQ35100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , EV2400

Hello,

I'm working with a customer who is running into the following issue. Can you recommend some troubleshooting steps for this? Thank you!

I'm using the BQStudio software to connect to the BQ35100 eval board via EV2400. At first I was able to change a few of the registers in the flash like the design capacity and as far as I can tell the changes were written. Yesterday, however, I was going through the calibration sequence in the "Using the BQ35100 with Li-Primary Based Applications" app note. When I got the point of putting the device into EOS mode, the attempt to write the GMSEL1 bit never succeeded. The read back comparison that BQStudio does after attempting the write always fails. In attempting to understand what was going on, it seems I managed to get the device back into a default state (with the original 2200mAh design capacity and 2000mV termination voltage.) Now I'm unable to change any of the values in flash.

Is it possible to lock myself out of flash permanently? (UNSEAL still works fine as far as I can tell)
Are there some steps that I may be missing to get the write access to succeed?

Regards,
Ryan B.

  • hi Ryan
have the customer unseal the gauge and then make sure it is in full access mode. Clicking The unseal button and full access button of bqstudio will do this.

Then program the default firmware in the link below:

this will get the device to the default pristine state. Then he should follow the instructions in the evm user guide for calibration.
