BQ24610: Why and when might both STAT1 and STAT2 be low simultaneously?

Part Number: BQ24610

Hi, we use a BQ24610 and monitor and log the STAT1 and STAT2 pins.  Sometimes both STAT1 and STAT2 are both low, if only for a few seconds.  What conditions might cause this, please?  Including transient and fault conditions.

In the issue I am presently investigating, AC is present and the battery was deeply discharged; I expect the charger to be in Precharge phase.  However please consider all phases of operation, including when AC is applied, AC is removed, etc.

I do not have access to the system in question, only the logfiles.

Design values include:

Battery is 4 cell LIon

STAT1, STAT2 are pulled up to 24V through 10k with series LEDs.  The two MCU status pins used to read STAT1, STAT2 have pullups and Schottky diodes to the STAT1, STAT2 lines.

TTC capacitor 0.1uF

Rsr = 0.010 ohm

ISET1 = 0.413V

ISET2 = 0.245V

ACSET = 1.300V

  • Hi Scott,

    The STAT1 and STAT2 state are defined as shown by Table 2 on the datasheet. There is no state with both STAT low. I would suggest monitor the pull up voltage at the same time. Did you do the test on TI EVM or a different board?
