LM5170EVM-BIDIR: How to operate multiple boards

Part Number: LM5170EVM-BIDIR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5170

Deat team,

Thank you for your kind support on board setting the other day.

Currently, I'm trying to set up with 4 phase interleave control by purchasing EVM additionally.
conditions:
· 4 phase operation (90-deg phase conduction)
· The input / output voltage remains standard
· Output current is maximum (3.3 V input to ISETA)
· 10V, 5V, 3.3V bias from master to slave
· Failure detection is transmitted from the slave to the master, and when malfunctioning, operation stops
· HV,LV is using common power supply and E-load

Jumper settings as below, It's a OK?

  • Hello,

Thanks for reaching out with your questions

Here are come comments about the slave board
Don't populate J34, J35, J36 , J37. The ISETA signal should come from the MASTER board so the external error amplifier is not needed.
Also you will need to supply 10V to the slave board. This can be done by connecting J17-43 (master) and J18-43 (slave) from one board to the other.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
  • Dear Garrett,

    Thanks your reply.

Can I understand that MASTER's board setting is OK?

    EVM J34-J37 function are below.
    J34:HV loop control
    J35:LV loop control
    J36:ISETA
    J37:5V

    Here, SLAVE's J34,J35 and J36 are open and MASTER's J18-11(ISETA) to SLAVE's J17-11(ISETA) connected.
But I can't understand about few points.

Control of HV and LV can not be found in J18.
J34 and J35 of the slave EVM should be opened?

    1. Adjust the voltage by the master side?
    2. For example, when operating in buck mode, how does the slave LM5170 share the information for adjusting the LV voltage with the master?

Sorry to trouble you, but please teach me.

    Best Regards,
  • Hello,

The voltage loop on the slave board needs to be disabled. The ISETA from the MASTER needs to be tied to the slave ISETA. This ensures that the current is shared evenly between all the phases. This means that on the slave board the J34 J37, J33, J35 should be left open.

    1. The output voltage should be adjusted by the master side feedback resistors.
    2. Since the slave voltage loop is disabled there is not need to change the voltage setting on the slave board.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
