BQ500215: Continuous charging with the Evaluation Board & bq51013B

Part Number: BQ500215
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013B, , BQ500212A

Hello,

I bought the BQ500215 Evaluation Board and the bq51013B Chip in hope to use it for wireless power transmitting.

However, I built a board for the bq51013B with schematic described in the datasheet. It works, I can transmit power with the two coils.
But it is only possible to transmit the power, if the two coils lays one above the other and the evaluation board + bq51013B  can communicate.

Is it possible to change the progamming of the BQ500215, so I can transmitt continous power, allowing a continous communication?

Best regards,

Hendrik

  • Hi
The coil to coil distance to transmit power is about 5mm. After power transmission has started the distance can be increased. This has to do with the start up ping from TX and UVLO of the RX. Take a look at RECT pin of RX at start up.

"so I can transmitt continous power, allowing a continous communication?" -- Yes, unit will do this now. The TX must receive a valid control error packet form the RX every 1.5 sec or power transfer will stop.

Also the BQ51013B can be powered by a 5W TX. The TYLT VU Solo is a design based on the BQ500212A. Then BQ500215 is a 10W design and more power than you need.
