BQ25895: used with 2 aluminum laminated battery in parallel?

Part Number: BQ25895

Hi,

my customer want to use BQ25895 with aluminum laminated battery.

The battery pack is single cell with protection board built in.

But now they find that the battery pack volume is not enough and it's not preferred to use a new larger volume battery.

They wonder if it's okay to use two battery pack in parallel. It's not one pack with 2cell battery in paralle. It's two pack in parallel, and each pack is single cell.

They are worried that the balance between two battery pack is not good enough, for example, one's voltage may reach 4.25V but the other one has just reached 4.15V.

Have you ever heard of the case of using two pack in parallel?

  • Howard,

The variation of the protection circuit resistance could cause small difference of the battery cell voltage in each pack. The way to use two packs seems OK as the pack terminal would be the same. You really need to make sure the two pack voltage is the same to put them in parallel first time.
