HI

Iam working on a project of battery gauging for a 36 volt,75AH capacity battery pack. My designed configuration for this project is as shown..

with this configuration Iam trying to measure SOC,SOH and temperature parameters of each battery.

Is this the correct configuration for gauging each battery?

    Hi Sathish,

    A single bq34z100-g1 gauge may be utilized with an external voltage divider to monitor the full 36 V stack., however, for lead-acid applications, the bq34110 may be more suitable. The bq34110 utilizes the CEDV algorithm.

    Please note the current. The datasheet for the bq34z100-G1 and the bq34110 recommend a current sense resistor between 5-20 mOhm in size. A 5 mOhm current sense resistor is only capable of up to +/- 25 A before going beyond the +/- 125 mV range across SRN and SRP.

    For informational purposes, this app note describes using current scaling to allow the device to work with capacities above 29 Ah and currents above 32 A, but a sense resistor outside of the datasheet recommendations would be required: www.ti.com/.../slua760

    Thanq for ur suggestion, as u said, can a single  bq34z100-g1 determine SOC and SOH of each 12Volt battery in a 36 V stack? how can we configure  bq34z100-g1 to monitor each 12 volt battery both circuit level as well as software level? kindly clarify me...

    Regarding current measurement I have taken care of proper sense resistor for the measurement

    Hi Satish,

    With respect to the voltage reading of the 36 V battery, it would consist of 3 discrete packs, each pack with 6 cells, for a total of 18 cells in series. A single gauge may be utilized to measure the stack voltage for all 3 in series together (18 cells in series).

    The gauge isn't necessarily intended for the configuration given above.
