BQ24171: Test Charging with the Evaluation Module Board

Part Number: BQ24171

Hello,

I using the evaluation module board to charge three Li-Ion batteries.  The board has three outputs- ground, VBAT, and VSYS.  The VBAT is connected to the charging port on the battery but I don't know where the VSYS goes.  I am only trying to charge the battery.  I was wondering if anyone knows what I need to do with the VSYS output of the board; does it also go to the charging port of the battery or is just not connected to anything?  What is the function of VSYS?  Thank you.

  • Elizabeth,

SYS is short for system and is intended to provide power to your entire electronic system. The BQ24171 provides the input voltage to the system, supplementing the system with the battery if the input voltage goes away or the system pulls more power than the input power source can provide. If you do not have a system to power, you can leave the VSYS terminal unconnected.
